Straßenmarkierungsfarben: Markt wächst bis 2036 auf USD 4,77 Mrd. – Indien 5,6 %, Deutschland 4,3 % CAGR

Highly visible road markings are becoming increasingly important worldwide, according to a recent analysis by Future Market Insights (FMI). The market for road marking paints and coatings is projected to grow from US$3.13 billion in 2026 to US$4.77 billion in 2036, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.3 percent.

Why demand is rising:
Many countries are expanding their highways and expressways. Cities are improving their traffic management. Furthermore, stricter regulations apply to visibility at night and in wet conditions. Road authorities are therefore increasingly using durable markings that reflect headlight beams.

Durable materials are leading the way.
High-performance materials such as thermoplastics, cold plastics, and epoxies will achieve a market share of 58 percent by 2026. According to the FMI (German Materials Industry Association), they last three to five years and require less frequent replacement. Roads and highways are the leading application area, accounting for 62 percent. Water-based acrylic paints are becoming more attractive where low-emission products are required.

India and China are growing fastest
. The market is growing most strongly in Asia. FMI expects annual growth of 5.6 percent for India and 5.1 percent for China. The USA follows with 4.6 percent, and Brazil with 4.4 percent.

Germany is Europe’s largest market
. Progress is also being made in Europe. Germany is growing at 4.3 percent per year and will remain the continent’s largest market in 2026 with a 21 percent share. Key drivers are the modernization of the motorway network and the requirements of the EN 1436 standard for markings in wet conditions. Great Britain is growing by 4.2 percent and holds a 15 percent market share in Europe. Smart motorways and environmentally friendly paint systems play a major role there. France has a 14 percent share, Italy 11 percent, and Spain 8 percent.

Analyst
Nikhil Kaitwade, Principal Consultant for Chemistry and Materials at FMI, explains: „The market is moving away from short-lived paint systems towards materials that are cost-effective throughout their entire lifespan. Manufacturers with thermoplastic expertise and experience with retroreflective glass beads could benefit from this, as road authorities are increasingly demanding durable markings."
